The interior architecture of a private house completed as a comprehensive solution
A Subtle Residence in Nõmme
Nõmme has always been special – known for its pine forests, tranquility, and dignified atmosphere. It was here, in this close-to-nature environment, that a residence was completed in 2023 – a home that is at once contemporary and timelessly refined. The client’s vision was to create a dwelling that would complement the architect’s bold and unconventional design while offering a warm and family-friendly living environment.
Our task as interior architects was to translate this architecture into the language of interiors – to merge modern form with the softer values of everyday life. The first ideas emerged from studying references and inspiration images, where a common understanding took shape: the home should carry a darker floor tone, balanced by moderately light walls. From this principle, the entire narrative of the design grew.

Lighting is half the secret of a successful interior – and so our story begins there. In this home, the lighting is soft, natural, and easy on the eyes. LED downlights fade in and out smoothly, creating an atmosphere where the eye can rest. Semi-decorative fixtures act like jewelry, lending personality and elegance to each space.

The interior was not born merely from a palette of materials but, above all, from spatial logic and rhythm. The house has four levels, two of which are dedicated to living spaces and two to technical functions. The layout is organized around a central volume that creates a circular flow – an invisible heart that ties the spaces together as one. This core became our starting point and the most important design gesture of the project.
This home is more than rooms and finishes. It embodies the wishes of the family, our creativity, and the ability to tell a story through materials, light, and space. Beneath the pines of Nõmme now stands a residence where every detail has been carefully considered and every corner tells its own tale – a home that is refined, subtle, and full of character.
The heart of the home – the kitchen and living room
At the heart of the home – the kitchen – function meets artistry. The cabinetry tucked under the staircase and articulated wall panels create a rhythm that echoes throughout the house. Like recurring motifs in music, these design elements weave the spaces into one coherent language. At the center stands a nearly four-meter-long kitchen island – practical, yet ceremonial, a gathering place for family and friends alike. Black-toned veneered cabinetry combined with the green-tinted NC Jade ceramic countertop gives the ensemble both dignity and character.
The living room is where the family gathers. The warm glow of the gas fireplace and its lively flame create a space that is not only aesthetic but soulful. A display cabinet with smoky glass and integrated lighting adds both functionality and refinement. At the client’s request, an audio system fills the room with music, while a Dutch-made rug softens the atmosphere. And the true centerpiece is not a chandelier this time, but rather a gas fireplace framed by a Noir Laurent stone portal – a contemporary solution that blends luxury with homeliness.
The family’s private floor
Ascending to the second floor reveals the more private quarters. The children’s rooms are warm and inviting, while the master bedroom stands out with its high pitched ceiling and circular flow. Beginning from the walk-in wardrobe, the space unfolds in pastel tones, where lighting and textured surfaces highlight a cozy mood.
The bathroom surprises with its spaciousness and elegant composition: the contrast of black and white marble tiles meets brushed bronze details, bringing balance and timeless dignity to the space. In the sauna and adjacent relaxation area with an open shower, warmth is added by a wooden ceiling and a wall-sized artistic mural – a truly unique corner for unwinding.
Back on the main floor, the monochrome palette is softened and enlivened by terracotta swivel chairs in the dining area and an Estonian-made moss-green velvet sofa in the living room. And once again, the Noir Laurent stone-framed gas fireplace reveals itself as the true showstopper – a striking detail that warms both the room and the spirit on crisp evenings.
